History
Russian name listed by Putnam (1903, p.1014), U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, meaning "wooded"; "so called because of the amount of drift-wood found on the beach." The Russian word "drova" means "fire-wood." Putnam (p.1015) lists the Aleut name as "Kologho" meaning "choked" or "full," again referring to beach drift-wood.
