History
Aleut name published by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 26), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Tangik," which, according to R. H. Geoghegan, means "island." U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) proposed the name "Waverly."
